Italian architect, designer, town planner, lecturer in architecture
A multi-award winning designer and architect, Marco Zanuso was a central figure in the Italian Modern Movement, who helped define the idea of good design that incorporates creativity, new technology, mass culture and market needs, not only taking into account the aesthetics of the object but also its functionality and accessibility. Based on this principle, he pioneered a new design concept which came to be known as techno-functionalism, emphasising on the importance of technological innovation and experimentation of new materials. He was also an editor for Domus and Casabella magazines, in which he wrote extensively on design theories to propel the development of modern design. Having contributed to an incredibly large range of architectural projects and product design, from electronic appliances to furniture to mobile housing units, Zanuso had won recognitions around the world, and his legacy is evident in the collections of many public museums.
